JCPL Summer Reading Program Activities



FAMILY PROGRAMS


The Horsemen Visit
Monday, June 9th 2 PM

The Horsemen Arena Football Team and Fillies Dance Team members will visit JCPL to help Kickoff the Summer Reading Program.

“Insects and Things”

Tuesday, June 10 at 10:30am & 7pm

Creepy Crawlers and more!  See different kinds of insects and the animals that eat them.
 
Funnybones
Tuesday, June 17 at 10:30am & 7pm

Chicken Mosh!  Get ready to move and play with this group of silly singers.  You will find yourself singing and dancing to all kinds of funny songs.  You are sure to have a good time.
 
Spin, POP, Boom!
Tuesday, June 24 at 10:30am & 7pm

Big and Loud…    Mad Science of Kentucky will astound you by defying gravity, creating rainbows in mega-size test tubes, and producing foam bursts that reach the sky.
 
Summer Storytime for Little Ones
Monday Mornings at 10:30am
June 9, 16, 23 & July 7, 14, 21

This storytime is for families with kids between the ages of 0 and 5 and their favorite adults. We combine stories, dancing, singing, and movement.  Parents are expected to be active participants and are sure to enjoy themselves as much as the children.
 
Freaky Fridays
Friday Mornings June 13, 20, 27 & July 11, 18, 25 at 10:30
For Elementary Age Kids (grades 1-5)

Be prepared for anything during these exciting family events.  Elementary students and their caregivers will explore and discover
during these mystery programs. Limit 25 children per program.  Adult participation is mandatory.

Indoor Drive-In
Second Sunday afternoon of June, July and August at 2 P.M.

Popcorn provided—bring a blanket, dress comfortably and prepare to enjoy time with your family at our  indoor “drive-in”.

Sit, Stay, Read
June 14 & July 19 at 10 AM-11:30 AM
(Grades 1-5)

Children are invited to come and read their favorite story to a willing canine listener.

Madcap Puppets
Tuesday, July 8 at 10:30am & 7:00pm

Dare to enter the world of “Once Upon A Time”.  We’ll join two children trying to unlock the secrets of their uncle’s clock shop. Each time they climb through a magical grandfather clock, they are whisked to a world where they become characters in
exciting stories. But fun turns to adventure when they get stuck in the clock. Will they find their way back before time runs out?
They’ll need your help to escape, so be sure you have a front row seat!
 
Art Day
Tuesday, July 15 at 10:30am & 7:00pm

Bring your imaginations to this fun filled day of art!   It might get messy, so be prepared!
 
Doug Doolin, Magician

Prepare to be amazed by this master of illusion as he entertains children of all ages with his sleight of hand and magic.

SUMMER SPECTACULAR CARNIVAL

July 29 6-8 PM at Nicholasville Elementary

Celebrate Summer Reading .  The carnival is open only to those participants of the JCPL Children’s Summer Reading Program who have completed and turned in at least 4 tickets prior to 7/27.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  This event will be held on the grounds of Nicholasville Elementary School.

Anime Matinee
June 28, July 12 & 26 at 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
(For Teens Only)

Looking for a place to stay cool in the summer heat and have a great time watching movies? JCPL has the solution to your problems—Anime Matinee. Selected Saturdays in June and July, we’ll be showing the best anime films. So bring some friends and prepare to be entertained!
 
Teen Game Night
June 12 & 26 and July 10 & 24 at 6:30-8:00

Every other Thursday in June and July, JCPL will offer a variety of great games featuring Wii and X-Box for you to play. We’ll provide the games, you provide the strategy.

ADULT PROGRAMS


Daniel Boone Extravaganza
June 28 at 10 AM

Come and learn more about Daniel Boone and other early explorers and pioneers in Jessamine County prior to 1785.
The day features a number of dramatized, non-fiction presentations by members of the Jessamine County Historical Society who are portraying Daniel Boone and other local explorers and pioneers.  With all actors in period costume, live dulcimer music and a unique display of artifacts, such as guns and knives that are over 200 years old, this will be a truly spectacular day for all who are interested in Daniel Boone and Jessamine County.

Book Lovers Discussion Group
Third Monday evenings of June & July at 7 P.M.
