Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your community and to make a difference in the lives of others.  If you have an extra hour a week, or just an extra hour a month, you can give the gift of your time, talent and skills to support and enhance the library's programs, services and mission.  We provide training to ensure that your volunteer experience is both enjoyable and fruitful.

Collection Maintenance
Our library collection is heavily used and we need help maintaining it on a regular basis. Volunteers in this area help shelve books, shelf read, replace security casings on DVDs and CDs,
or retrieve books from the outside book drop.  Some of the volunteer positions in this area require reaching and bending.  These positions are for the detail oriented  person who likes to work independently.  These volunteers need to commit to a set schedule each week or month with either the children's library or the general collection.

Programming
The library offers a wide variety of in-house programs each week to serve our community.  An extra pair of hands is always needed to assist our staff with set-up and implementation.  Volunteers in this area help with making  nametags, assisting latecomers, putting together craft kits, greeting program attendants and much more.  This position is for the  friendly and hospitable person who likes to help others get acquainted with the library.  These volunteers commit on an event-by-event basis and work with either children, teen, or adult programs.

Outreach
Bringing library services to people in the county who cannot get to our building is a top service priority.  Much volunteer help is needed to make our outreach programs a success.  These positions require a minimum  6-month commitment to the library:

Library Ambassadors represent the library at various community events by staffing the information table and sharing with the public about the library's collection, programs, and services.

Library Link Volunteers select, check-out, deliver, and return library materials to Jessamine County's homebound residents.

Spellbinders train as storytellers and represent the library by sharing stories with a variety of populations around the county.

Monthly Book Delivery volunteers assist staff in delivering book tubs to childcare centers on a monthly basis.

Special Delivery volunteers assist in putting together and delivering  book kits per special request from local childcare centers.

Story time volunteers are trained to assist staff in providing story time to childcare centers each week.
