Summer Family Program: rePurcussion @ JCPL at Meeting Room 1/2/3/4/5/6

Our Summer Learning Family Performances are family friendly programs that are specifically selected with elementary aged students in mind. All ages are welcome and registration is not required.

rePurcussion: America’s Premiere Comedy drumming show!A group of highly skilled and professional entertainers joining together for the sole purpose of entertaining audiences. rePercussion is composed of entertainment veterans that have performed for hundreds of thousands of people in numerous different avenues. The group has the World Record for leading the world’s largest Airdrum Ensemble. Individually, members have performed for Disney Cruise Lines, performed for Emirate royalty, been a top competitor in Drum Corps and World Champion of Indoor Percussion Theater, toured on the Warped Tour, been featured on MTV, MTV2, VH1, and on shows such as ‘The Real World’, ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’, ‘The Hills’ and “Laguna Beach’. The group has been pleasing audience around the world for over a decade. Not only are they expert percussionists, they incorporate a highly interactive performance of sight, sound, and laughter. Blurring the lines between electronic music, drum line, rock and slapstick, the groups’ ability to combine drumming, comedy and crowd interaction is unique to rePercussion and quite literally needs to be seen to believed.To see a video clip of the performance click HERE.

Make Music Day: Children’s Instrument Workshop @ JCPL at Meeting Room 1/2/3/4/5/6

Get Creative with music in this Make Music Day instrument making workshop.  Children and their caregivers are invited to create homemade musical instruments which they can then play at our Rachel Sumner concert following the workshop.

Project materials will be provided and will be available while supplies last.No registration is required.

Make Music Day: Rachel Sumner Concert @ JCPL at Meeting Room 1/2/3/4/5/6

Explore instrument families and the science of sound with this lively performance. Rachel engages participants by incorporating zany instruments like the turkey baster, straw panpipes, tin can guitar, washboard, recycled percussion instruments and audience participation.Children’s recording artist, Rachel Sumner has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. She is a professional singer, storyteller, writer, and actor who has sung in bands and twenty-one piece orchestras, performed in children’s theater, and appeared in television and radio commercials. Her recordings have received numerous awards and can be heard on children’s radio and satellite programming around the world. Her music videos have appeared regularly on The Learning Channel. In addition to performing, Rachel presents keynotes and workshops for educators, librarians and parents. She is an experienced teaching artist who works with various arts organizations including the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Education Department. She is also a Master Artist with the highly acclaimed Wolf Trap Institute.

This storytime is for families with kids between the ages of 0 and 5 and their favorite adults.We combine stories, dancing, singing, and movement. Adults are expected to be active participants and are sure to enjoy themselves as much as the children.

Virtual Field Trip: Live Safari from South Africa @ JCPL at Meeting Room 5/6

JCPL’s virtual field trips allow you to visit far off places, see artistic masterpieces, experience live performances, go behind the scenes and get up close and personal all without leaving Jessamine County.

Using High Definition videoconferencing technology, participants are able to interact live with presenters at hundreds of content providers around the world.  Virtual field trips provide the opportunity for patrons to experience the history and appreciation of visual and performing arts, explore the sciences, learn about history and more.

Join us on a live Safari with safariLive.  safariLIVE is an award-winning daily, interactive broadcast, hosted by expert safari guides and streamed LIVE to the internet directly from the South African bush.  Keep your eyes open for elephant, lion, buffalo or the elusive cheetah. Other iconic species include leopard, zebra, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, hyenas, wildebeest, wild dog and vultures.
