New York City’s Lincoln Center for the Performing arts partners with local libraries to bring exclusive free screenings of their finest performances to your home town. This is a film screening of a performance by Mariachi Flor De Toloache which took place on May 17, 2016. Mariachi is an important part of Mexican folk culture, known for its vivid vocals, driving string rhythms and soaring trumpet melodies. New York’s first all-female mariachi group and one of the city’s most exciting new bands, Mariachi Flor de Toloache celebrates the traditions of this folk form from around the world while creating a style all their own. Mariachi Flor de Toloache takes pride in choosing material from the traditional mariachi playbook but also uses other musical influences within their work. Their original songs and new arrangements reflect the influence of salsa, cumbia, gypsy music, Latin jazz as well as pop, hip-hop and even soul music.
