This book group aims to bring middle school students and their caregivers together! Starting in 6th grade, students may experience numerous changes that distance them from important people in their lives. Reading with your middle school student can help maintain common ground and encourage open communication. Everyone is welcome including: Parents, grandparents, aunts, cousins, siblings, foster parents, and more!
How this book club works:
1. Check out a book to read with your middle school student. We’re recommending Ghost by Jason Reynolds for March 2018!
2. Set aside time to read with your middle school student. You may read daily, weekly, or within whatever time frame works best! We recommend reading aloud together. However, you may also enjoy listening to an audiobook or reading separately in the same room.
3. After each reading session, start a conversation by sharing your thoughts about the book. Ask your middle school student what they think of the characters and their actions.
4. Come to the group meeting on Wednesday, March 28th. Here, you’ll have a chance to talk about the book you read in a communal setting. JCPL will supply free food and beverages!
